EDITORS COMMENTS
Allan Watkins, one of Glamorgan's greatest cricketers, is captured in this iconic photo print. Known for his exceptional skills as an all-rounder, Watkins left an indelible mark on the cricketing world. With 15 Test matches under his belt, he achieved the rare feat of scoring over 1,000 runs and taking 100 wickets in a single season not once but twice. Born in Usk, Watkins had a remarkable career spanning over four decades. His dedication to the sport is evident from his impressive record of 17,419 runs scored, 774 wickets taken, and 390 catches made during his illustrious county appearances. This particular image captures a significant moment in cricket history - Watkins' appearance in the final Test match of the legendary 1948 Ashes series. It was also Don Bradman's farewell Test match for Australia after delivering outstanding performances throughout the Championship cricket season. Sadly, Allan Watkins passed away at the age of 89. However, his legacy lives on through this photograph that immortalizes him as both a Glamorgan cricketer and an integral part of England's national team.
