The " Hood", a 600-yr-old custom which takes place on January 6th each year at Haxley, Lincolnshire.
A leather hood is thrown into the crowd, no-one is allowed to run with or throw the hood; the game consists of one large rugby type scrum or sway in which the Hood is pushed or pulled or swayed in the desired direction.
When it reaches one of the four local public houses, free beer is served and the Hood remains in the pub for the year.
There are no official teams as such, all participants simply join in and attempt to move the hood to their favoured public house.
