Making a splash... Nields Junior and Infant School opens its nature pond at assembly

Making a splash... Nields Junior and Infant School opens its nature pond at assembly. Mr Andrew Mansell (left), of Holmbridge, who built the pond at the Slaithwaite school, and Mr Bob McCartney, director general of the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association, who sponsored it, fish for the newly introduced goldfish. The pond is part two of a scheme to build an extensive nature and wildlife area at the school. Children brought in snails, tadpoles and pond skater insects to start the pool off. Headmaster Harry Trumbell said all the 135 pupils would use the pond in their nature studies. The Rev Robin Townsend blessed the pond in assembly which was attended by the chairman of the school governors Mrs Christine Shepherd. 16th May 1990

Making a Splash - Nields Junior and Infant School Embrace Nature with New Pond

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the exciting moment when Nields Junior and Infant School unveils its brand new nature pond during assembly. The photograph captures Mr Andrew Mansell, a skilled builder from Holmbridge who constructed the pond, alongside Mr Bob McCartney, director general of the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association, who generously sponsored this remarkable project. As they carefully fish for newly introduced goldfish in the crystal-clear water, it becomes evident that this pond is just one component of an ambitious plan to create an extensive nature and wildlife area within the school grounds. To kickstart this aquatic haven, enthusiastic children have contributed snails, tadpoles, and pond skater insects. Headmaster Harry Trumbell proudly declares that all 135 pupils will benefit from utilizing the pond as part of their immersive nature studies. The Rev Robin Townsend blesses this natural oasis during assembly while Mrs Christine Shepherd, chairman of the school governors, graces the occasion with her presence.
