EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, three 11-year-old girls named Joanne Shaw, Joanna Norcliffe, and Olivia Butterfield are captured in action as they help to brighten up the environment. The young girls can be seen planting wild flower bulbs at Tunnel End, showcasing their dedication towards preserving nature. This inspiring project was organized by Colne Valley country warden Mike O Roarke and involved six classes from Marsden Junior School. Not only did these enthusiastic pupils plant about 1,000 trees in the Tunnel End area and along the canal earlier that year but they were also set to receive certificates for their remarkable efforts. The ceremony was scheduled to take place later that afternoon with Clr Mrs Dorothy Lindley presenting the well-deserved recognition. This nostalgic image takes us back to June 9th, 1988 when children like Joanne Shaw, Joanna Norcliffe, and Olivia Butterfield actively participated in environmental initiatives. It serves as a reminder of how even at a young age, individuals can make a significant impact on their surroundings through education and awareness. The photograph captures not just an event but also represents themes such as childhood innocence and the importance of instilling environmental values early on. It is a testament to the power of collective action and showcases how small acts can contribute towards creating a greener future for generations to come.
