These fivers and tenners are destined for the bodyscanner coffers
These fivers and tenners are destined for the bodyscanner coffers, thanks to the fund-raising efforts of (from left) Michelle, Daniel, Martin, Gary and Claire Whitwam. The children organised a jumble sale at the home of their grandparents, Mr and Mrs Albert Whitwam, Linthwaite, which raised £ 30.20. Said Mrs Whitwam: " I d like to thank all of my neighbours and friends for their generosity supporting such a good cause". 27th August 1987

EDITORS COMMENTS
This heartwarming print captures a moment of pure generosity and community spirit. Pictured are the Whitwam children, Michelle, Daniel, Martin, Gary, and Claire, proudly displaying the fruits of their fundraising efforts. These fivers and tenners may seem like small denominations to some, but they hold immense value when destined for the bodyscanner coffers. The children took it upon themselves to organize a jumble sale at their grandparents' home in Linthwaite. Their hard work paid off as they successfully raised £30.20 for a worthy cause. Mrs. Albert Whitwam expressed her gratitude to all the neighbors and friends who contributed with such generosity. This snapshot from August 27th, 1987 takes us back to an era where children actively engaged in fundraising activities for their communities without relying on technology or social media platforms. It serves as a reminder that even small contributions can make a significant impact when united towards a common goal. In this image lies not just money notes but also hope and compassion—a testament to the power of unity within neighborhoods like Huddersfield and Kirklees in West Yorkshire during those times. This photograph is part of our 'All Our Yesterdays' collection—capturing moments from the 1980s that remind us of simpler times filled with innocence and selflessness.
