EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historical significance of MTB 309, an American Elco 77 ft boat that was built on February 11,1942, and commissioned on April 22,1942. Led by Lieutenant D Jermain DSC RN, who also served as the Senior Officer of the 15th Flotilla, this vessel played a crucial role during World War II. In September 1942, MTBs from the 10th Flotilla (MTBs 260-268) joined forces with the already formidable fleet of the 15th Flotilla under Lt Jermain's command. It wasn't until September 1943 when Lt Cdr C Evensen DSC RNVR took over as Senior Officer. The picture itself is a remarkable snapshot taken on July 23rd, in the year of our Lord, in which we see Princess Elizabeth alongside Prince Philip and Princess Margaret aboard MTB. This momentous occasion showcases their connection to naval affairs and highlights their involvement with important military vessels like MTB309. With its archival quality and rich details depicting artillery equipment such as binoculars and hats worn by members of royalty including Queen Elizabeth II herself; this print serves as a cherished reminder of both Britain's maritime history and its royal family's dedication to serving their country.
