EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print from 1985, we see four-year-old Ruth Malton taking charge and getting the needles clicking to raise money for a special cause. Surrounded by three dedicated women - Mrs Eileen Hamer, Mrs Margaret Malton, and Mrs Sheila Green - who were part of a group of 17 Huddersfield Royal Infirmary staff and friends, little Ruth is determined to make a difference. The purpose behind their efforts was to raise funds for a specialist computer needed in the new blind unit. This visually handicapped unit operated from premises at Dalton Infants School and provided essential support for three blind youngsters. The goal was ambitious: they aimed to collect over £600 through their sponsored knit. This touching display of community spirit showcases the power of compassion and determination. Despite her young age, Ruth's involvement highlights that anyone can contribute towards making positive change happen. With each stitch she knits, she brings hope closer to those who need it most. It is evident that education and inclusivity are at the forefront of this initiative as they strive to provide better opportunities for children with disabilities. Through fundraising efforts like these, communities come together not only to raise funds but also awareness about important causes. This photograph serves as a reminder that even small acts can have significant impacts when driven by passion and unity.
