EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming print from 1985, Huddersfield-born actor Keith Noble is seen embracing the spirit of Christmas in a unique and delightful way. Playing the role of Widow Twankey in a production of Aladdin at the Civic Theatre in Halifax, Noble decided to add some extra sweetness to his performance by dressing up as a Nuttalls Mintoe. To fully immerse himself in the role, Noble took a trip to Callard, Bowser and Nuttalls factory in Halifax, where these mouth-sized Mintoes were made. Pictured alongside factory workers Alan Stephenson and Liz Brunton, he couldn't hide his excitement about donning the mouth-watering outfit for all the shows. This festive tradition of pantomime holds a special place in British culture during Christmastime. It brings together beloved characters like Widow Twankey with famous actors such as Linda Nolan, Geoff Capes, and Vince Hill. The anticipation builds as final rehearsals take place before opening night on December 20th. Noble's dedication to his craft shines through as he embraces different costumes each year. In previous performances, he wore a Rileys Toffee Roll outfit but has now switched gears to become an irresistible Mintoe. This photo captures not only his enthusiasm but also highlights the joyous atmosphere surrounding this cherished holiday tradition. As we look back on this snapshot from decades past, it serves as a reminder of how traditions evolve over time while still maintaining their magic and charm.
