French Fun at Petanque Tournament - A Blast from the Past

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this charming photo print, we are transported back to a sunny day in June 1987, where a group of French enthusiasts gathered for an exciting game of petanque. Pictured from left to right are Mrs Roslyn Spencer, Mr Martyn Mellor, Mrs Carol Mellor, and Mr John Spencer - their smiles and laughter capturing the joyous spirit of the occasion. The event was organized by Atelier Francais, a French workshop led by dedicated Holmfirth Adult Education teachers Nicole Adams, Denise Cliffe, Carol Mellor, and Ruth Saunders. Held at the picturesque home of Mr Martin Cusworth in Near Bank Shelley, approximately 40 participants eagerly took part in this friendly competition. Amidst cheers and applause from fellow players and spectators alike, it was Alex Waters and Joel Adams who emerged victorious. Their exceptional skills earned them a well-deserved shield as recognition for their triumph. This snapshot not only showcases the timeless appeal of outdoor leisure activities but also highlights the cultural exchange fostered through sports like petanque. As we gaze upon this image today with fond nostalgia - remembering all our yesterdays - let us celebrate these moments that bring people together across generations and borders.
