The De Havilland D. H. 84 G-ACCV Seafarer - A Record-Breaking Journey
EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the iconic moment when Mr Jim Mollison and his wife Amy Mollison, formerly known as Amy Johnson, embarked on their daring adventure across the Atlantic in 1933. The De Havilland D. H. 84 G-ACCV Seafarer, specially modified with cabin fuel tanks and a reinforced undercarriage, was their vessel of choice to attempt a world record for long-distance flight. As they soared through the skies above Cork harbor in Ireland, en route to the United States, their aircraft gracefully passed by a majestic schooner yacht. This image encapsulates not only the spirit of aviation but also highlights the harmonious coexistence between air and sea transport during that era. On July 22nd, 1933, they took off from Pendine Sands in South Wales with New York City as their ultimate destination. After an arduous flight lasting 39 hours, fatigue and darkness led them to land downwind over Bridgeport, Connecticut. Unfortunately, this resulted in an accident that flipped their aircraft; however miraculously both aviators escaped with only minor injuries. This photograph serves as a testament to these pioneering heroes who fearlessly pushed boundaries and shattered records amidst challenging circumstances. Their determination exemplifies the spirit of exploration and innovation prevalent during the 1930s. Memory Lane Prints presents this remarkable piece from history - an embodiment of speed
