PICTURE 14 of the 14 SEQUENCE. The Box Camera - a series of pictures demonstrating how to use it.
Picture taken with a Box Camera, shows a horse walking towards the camera. Picture was published in A.P. (possibly called Amateur Photogapher at the time. 29th)
A box camera is a simple type of camera, the most common form being a cardboard or plastic box with a lens in one end and film at the other. They were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The lenses are often single element designs meniscus fixed focus lens, or in better quality box cameras a doublet lens with minimal (if any) possible adjustments to the aperture or shutter speeds. Because of the inability to adjust focus, the small lens aperture and the low sensitivity of the sensitive materials available, these cameras work best in brightly lit day-lit scenes when the subject is within the hyperfocal distance for the lens and of subjects that move little during the exposure. Eventually, box cameras with photographic flash, shutter and aperture adjustment were introduced, allowing indoor photos.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Picture 14 of the 14 Sequence captures a nostalgic moment in time with the iconic Box Camera. This series of pictures serves as a comprehensive guide on how to use this simple yet beloved camera. In this particular shot, taken on March 1st, 1933 by Mirrorpix and published in A. P. , we witness a majestic horse gracefully approaching the lens. Box cameras were incredibly popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to their straightforward design. Constructed from cardboard or plastic, these cameras featured a lens at one end and film at the other. The lenses were typically fixed focus with minimal adjustments available for aperture or shutter speeds. Due to their limitations, box cameras thrived in well-lit environments where subjects remained relatively still throughout exposure. However, advancements eventually introduced features like flash photography and adjustable shutters and apertures, expanding their capabilities indoors. This remarkable photograph showcases not only the beauty of equine grace but also pays homage to an era when capturing moments required simplicity and resourcefulness. As we gaze upon this image from Memory Lane Prints' collection, we are transported back to a time when photography was an art form that relied on ingenuity rather than digital precision.
