Picture shows a mobile canteen, serving tea to the local people of Hull during World War

Picture shows a mobile canteen, serving tea to the local people of Hull during World War Two.
The Hull Blitz was the bombing campaign that targeted the English port city of Kingston upon Hull by the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War.
Large-scale attacks took place on several nights throughout March 1941, resulting in over 200 deaths. The most concentrated attacks were on the nights of 7/8 and 8/9 May 1941, resulting in just under 400 deaths, and another large-scale attack took place in July 1941 with 143 fatalities.
No date for picture, so Mirrorpix will put circa 9th May 1941, which follow night raids on the city 7th and 8th May.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures a mobile canteen in action, serving much-needed tea to the resilient local people of Hull during World War Two. The city of Kingston upon Hull endured relentless bombing by the German Luftwaffe in what became known as the Hull Blitz. The devastating attacks resulted in numerous casualties, with over 200 deaths recorded during March 1941 alone. The picture, dating back to circa 9th May 1941, showcases the aftermath of consecutive night raids on the city that occurred on 7th and 8th May. In this scene of hope amidst chaos, a Lyons tea van stands as a symbol of aid and support for the war-stricken community. Grateful civilians gather around, seeking warmth and comfort from their cups while wearing headscarves as protection against both cold weather and falling debris. This image serves as a reminder of how acts of charity can bring solace even in times of great adversity. The bustling crowd reflects the unity and resilience displayed by those facing unimaginable hardships during World War Two. It is an enduring testament to human compassion and determination. Memory Lane Prints presents this historical snapshot from Mirrorpix's collection without any commercial intent but rather to honor the bravery and fortitude exhibited by ordinary individuals who found strength within their communities when faced with extraordinary circumstances.
