The Maori team that played Cardiff was given a civic welcome by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff (Alderman C H McCale). Seated are Mr Percy Bush (who played against New Zealand in 1905), Major R G Bertrand (in charge of the Maoris), The Lord Mayor, The Maoris captain and Lieutenant Colonel Idris Evans, WRU, Mr RA Cornish, another member of the WRU, standing between Mr Bush and Major Bertrand.
Research suggests The New Zealand Rugby Team played in Wales just before Italy entered the war on 10th June 1940.
