Women flight mechanics are working for the R. A. F. in Flying training Command
Women flight mechanics are working for the R.A.F. in Flying training Command. Each aircraft is inspected every 24 hours and thoroughly overhauled after it has flown a stipulated time. During these inspections the airwomen check up on the filling of fuel and oil tanks, check over the controls and start up and run the engines on the ground. Then they sign the certificate of airworthiness. They take- their share too, in the more detailed routine overhaul - and are required to do any repairs that come within their physical scope. For this work, which they undertake side by side with the R.A.F. they naturally have lengthy training. Finally, they fly with the pilot to test the aircraft which they have serviced. Before the test flight a W.A.A.F. flight mechanic inspects the under-carriage, wheels, air pressure, hydraulic valves, controls, oil level and the pilots safety belt.
