Seabourn Pride, Fowey, Cornwall. May 1992
Fowey Town Crier, Michael Penprase, welcomes into Fowey the Norwegian cruise liner Seabourn Pride. The, mainly American, holidaymakers spent some time in the town and some also travelled to Lanhydrock House, near Bodmin. This was one of the first cruise liners to visit the port and in subsequent years up to 10 a year opted to include Fowey on their itineraries. Photographer: Jonathan Barker

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from May 1992, we witness a momentous occasion in the picturesque town of Fowey, Cornwall. The Norwegian cruise liner Seabourn Pride gracefully sails into the harbor as Fowey's esteemed Town Crier, Michael Penprase, extends a warm Cornish welcome to its mainly American holidaymakers. Dressed impeccably in his traditional uniform and donning a tricorn hat, the charismatic town crier stands proudly on the ship's railing. His bell poised mid-swing, ready to announce their arrival with resounding cheerfulness. This historic event marked one of the first instances where Fowey became an enticing destination for cruise liners seeking to explore Cornwall's beauty. As these fortunate travelers disembarked onto Fowey's charming streets, they immersed themselves in the town's rich heritage and vibrant atmosphere. Some even ventured further inland to visit Lanhydrock House near Bodmin—a testament to Cornwall's allure beyond its coastal wonders. The talented photographer Jonathan Barker expertly captured this significant moment that would shape Fowey's future as a sought-after port-of-call for up to ten cruise liners annually. The image encapsulates both civic pride and genuine excitement shared by locals and visitors alike. This remarkable photograph serves as a timeless reminder of how Fowey embraced its newfound role on international itineraries while preserving its authentic Cornish spirit. Let us cherish this snapshot of history—a fusion of maritime elegance, cultural exchange, and heartfelt hospitality that continues to define this
