Crowds of people are listening to the presentation on a sunny day. The manor of Tehidy was owned by the Basset family who prospered from mining and their vast estate. The 40 bedroom mansion house was built in 1855 to replace the earlier mansion of 1734. The manor was sold in 1916 ending 700 years of Basset rule. Tehidy Manor holds great historical significance as it was once owned by the prosperous Basset family who amassed their wealth through mining endeavors. The magnificent mansion house with its 40 bedrooms was constructed in 1855 as a replacement for an earlier mansion dating back to 1734. However, in 1916, after ruling over Tehidy for an impressive span of seven centuries, the Bassett family sold their beloved manor. Tragically, just two weeks after opening its doors as a hospital, fire ravaged through Tehidy Manor causing extensive damage. Nevertheless, thanks to Cornwall County Council's determination and resilience, they rebuilt this architectural gem.
