EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a vibrant moment in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, back in June 1984. The Trigg Morris Men, hailing from Bodmin, take center stage in Parade Square as they showcase their traditional dance moves. Rooted in the ancient administrative area of Mid Cornwall known as The Hundred of Trigg, this all-male group performs lively dances inspired by the Cotswold style. With sticks and handkerchiefs in hand, they bring an energetic rhythm to their performances. While exclusively male themselves, the Trigg Morris Men warmly encourage women to join their sister group located just five miles away in Tywardreath. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone can experience the joy and camaraderie that comes with being part of this rich Cornish tradition. Photographed by Jonathan Barker, this image beautifully captures not only the dancers' precise movements but also their unique attire. Adorned with flowers atop their hats, these men add a touch of whimsy to their performance while staying true to their cultural roots. Preserved within the Royal Cornwall Museum's collection, this print serves as a testament to the enduring spirit and heritage of Cornish folk traditions. It reminds us of how communities come together through music and dance to celebrate shared history and create lasting memories for generations to come.
