1905 Sauropod dinosaur Cetiosaurus leedsi

Hind limb and pelvis of the saurian Cetiosaurus leedsi with its discoverer Alfred Nicholson Leeds standing left. Leeds amassed a uniquely large collection of fossil vertebrates from the Oxford clays of Peterborough. This dinosaur, discovered in 1887, was then one of the finest British Saurian specimens known. It was displayed in the British Museum of Natural History. In 1886 Leeds also discovered (and had named for him) Leedsichthys problematicus - one of the largest bony fish of all time

Black And White Dinosaur Fossil Palaeontologist Reconstruction Sauropod Victorian Leedsichthys Mono Chrome Palaeontology Peterborough

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable 1905 discovery of the Sauropod dinosaur Cetiosaurus leedsi, alongside its dedicated discoverer Alfred Nicholson Leeds. Standing proudly to the left, Leeds amassed an extraordinary collection of fossil vertebrates from the Oxford clays of Peterborough. This particular dinosaur specimen, unearthed in 1887, was hailed as one of Britain's finest Saurian finds at that time and took center stage in the prestigious British Museum of Natural History. Leeds' contributions to paleontology did not stop there. In 1886, he made yet another groundbreaking discovery - a colossal bony fish named Leedsichthys problematicus, which remains one of history's largest known fish species. These significant findings solidified Leeds' reputation as a prominent figure in Victorian geology and paleontology. Paul D. Stewart expertly captures this historical moment through his monochromatic illustration, evoking a sense of awe and wonderment. The black and white tones lend an air of authenticity to this reconstruction artwork, transporting viewers back to a bygone era where dinosaurs roamed our planet. This mesmerizing image serves as a testament to both human curiosity and scientific achievement. It reminds us that even in our modern age, there is still much we can learn from these ancient creatures who once dominated Earth's landscape millions of years ago.
