Ariane 44L rocket, artwork

Ariane 44L rocket, computer artwork. The Ariane 4 was a rocket launching system designed by CNES (the French space agency) for the European Space Agency (ESA). The first successful launch was in 1988. The 44L Ariane design used four liquid-fuel booster rockets (bottom), followed by three successive central rocket stages. The top of the rocket was used to carry the payload, such as a satellite, into orbit. The entire system was expendable, and rebuilt for each launch. There were 29 44L launches between 1989 and 1999. The last Ariane 4 launch was in 2003

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork showcases the impressive Ariane 44L rocket, a remarkable feat of technology and engineering. Designed by CNES for the European Space Agency, this single-use rocket system revolutionized space travel in the late 20th century. The computer-generated illustration beautifully captures the intricate details of this powerful spacecraft. The Ariane 44L design featured four liquid-fuel booster rockets at its base, providing an immense thrust to propel it into orbit. Three successive central rocket stages followed, each contributing to the rocket's ascent. Atop this magnificent structure sat the payload section, responsible for carrying satellites and other valuable cargo into space. Between 1989 and 1999, there were an impressive total of 29 successful launches using this particular model. However, as an expendable launch system, each launch required a complete rebuild of the entire rocket assembly. This artwork not only highlights France's significant contribution to aerospace advancements but also symbolizes Europe's collaborative efforts in exploring outer space through projects like Ariane. Its inclusion in Science Photo Library is a testament to its scientific significance and aesthetic appeal. As we admire this breathtaking image, we are reminded of humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and our unwavering determination to push boundaries beyond Earth's atmosphere.
