ATV resupply spacecraft, exhibit model C016 / 6379
ATV resupply spacecraft, exhibit model. The Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) is an unmanned resupply vehicle used by the European Space Agency to supply the International Space Station (ISS). After being released in orbit it uses its thrusters and lasers to dock with the ISS. It is also used to boost the ISS to reverse orbit degradation. After being loaded with waste, it separates and de-orbits, burning up in Earths atmosphere. Three ATVs have been launched since March 2008. On 2 April 2012 the ESA announced that the ATV program would end after the fifth ATV is launched in 2014. It is now planned for use with the US Orion spacecraft

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the ATV resupply spacecraft, exhibit model C016 / 6379. Developed by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) serves as an essential unmanned resupply vehicle for the International Space Station (ISS). With its advanced thrusters and lasers, this autonomous spacecraft flawlessly docks with the ISS to deliver crucial supplies and equipment. Not only does the ATV play a vital role in replenishing resources on board the space station, but it also assists in reversing orbit degradation by boosting the ISS. Once loaded with waste materials, this remarkable spacecraft separates from the station and undergoes controlled de-orbiting, disintegrating upon reentry into Earth's atmosphere. Since its inaugural launch in March 2008, three ATVs have successfully completed their missions. However, after announcing that only one more would be launched in 2014, ESA declared that this groundbreaking program would come to an end. Nevertheless, plans are now underway to utilize ATVs alongside the US Orion spacecraft. Displayed within a museum exhibition setting, this model exemplifies cutting-edge engineering and technological advancements of our time. The intricate design of this ATV exhibit not only highlights its significant contributions to space logistics but also emphasizes humanity's relentless pursuit of scientific progress in space exploration.
