EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the heartwarming bond between a Bonnet macaque mother and her adorable baby. The image captures the essence of maternal love as the mother protects and nurtures her young one. These infants rely on their mother's milk for nourishment until they are around 6 to 7 months old, gradually gaining independence by their first year. The Bonnet macaque, scientifically known as Macaca radiata, derives its name from the distinctive bonnet-shaped patch of hair on its head. With a body length ranging from 35 to 60 centimeters, this primate species is native to the lush evergreen and deciduous forests of Kerala in southern India. In terms of diet, these omnivorous creatures have a varied palate that includes ripe fruits, leaves, and insects. They form close-knit social groups within their natural habitat in Periyar National Park located in the Western Ghats region. Photographed by TONY CAMACHO/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY, this enchanting image beautifully encapsulates both the biological marvels and emotional connections found within nature's realm. It serves as a reminder of our shared existence with these incredible creatures while highlighting their importance in maintaining ecological balance.
