EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Boris Rosing, a prominent Russian inventor who played a crucial role in the early development of television technology. Born in 1869, Rosing's innovative mind led him to create a groundbreaking television system that combined an electromechanical camera mechanism with a cathode ray tube (CRT). His inventions were patented in Germany in 1907 and 1911, solidifying his place as one of the pioneers of this revolutionary medium. However, Rosing's life took an unfortunate turn when he was exiled by Stalin to the Archangel region in Russia's Far North in 1931. Despite this hardship, his contributions to science and technology remained significant until his untimely death two years later. In this portrait captured in 1929, we see Rosing as a distinguished gentleman with an air of determination and intellect. The monochrome image adds depth and historical context to the photograph, highlighting both the technological advancements he championed and the turbulent times he lived through. Boris Rosing's legacy lives on as an inspiration for future generations of engineers and inventors. This print from Science Photo Library serves as a poignant reminder of his remarkable achievements within the field of television technology during the early decades of the twentieth century.
