Camptosaurus bones

Camptosaurus bones. Fossilised leg bones of a Camptosaurus next to equipment used for constructing dinosaur exhibits. Camptosaurus was a plant eating dinosaur that lived in the late Jurassic period, about 156-145 million years ago. It measured 5-7 metres long and weighed roughly 1000 kilograms. The feet had four toes and it is thought that Camptosaurs could walk on either two or four legs. This fossil was photographed at Phil Fraley Productions, USA, where in 2007, it is being rebuilt from a 2-D display into a 3-D exhibit to be shown at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, USA

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the fossilized leg bones of a Camptosaurus, an intriguing plant-eating dinosaur that roamed the Earth during the late Jurassic period. The image beautifully captures these ancient bones next to equipment used for constructing remarkable dinosaur exhibits. Measuring between 5-7 meters in length and weighing around 1000 kilograms, this herbivorous creature possessed four-toed feet, leading scientists to speculate whether it could walk on either two or four legs. Photographed at Phil Fraley Productions in the United States, this particular Camptosaurus fossil is undergoing a fascinating transformation from a two-dimensional display into an awe-inspiring three-dimensional exhibit. Soon to be showcased at the renowned Carnegie Museum of Natural History in America, this reconstructed masterpiece will transport visitors back millions of years ago. The photograph not only highlights the intricate anatomy and paleobiology of Camptosaurus but also offers a glimpse into the meticulous process involved in creating lifelike dinosaur displays. With gloves and tools carefully placed nearby, it becomes evident that every detail matters when bringing these prehistoric creatures back to life. Thanks to Science Photo Library's dedication to capturing scientific wonders like this one, we are granted access to marvel at such extraordinary pieces of our planet's history.
