Charles Green (1785-1870), British balloonist. Green first ascended in a balloon on 19 July 1821. Between 1821 and 1852, he made 526 ascents. His most famous flight was his overnight flight from England to Germany, on 7-8 November 1836. This flight, in the balloon Royal Vauxhall, covered a record distance of 722 kilometres in 18 hours, travelling from Vauxhall Gardens, in London, England, to Weilburg, in the German state of the Duchy of Nassau. Green flew with two passengers, Robert Hollond and Thomas Monck Mason
