Cupping set dating from 1880, France. This set comprises of four cups, a syringe, and a scarificator. This set would have been used in a procedure called wet cupping, a form of bloodletting used in the nineteenth century to treat a range of ailments. The scarificator is used to cut the skin, then the cup would be placed over the wound. A vacuum is created within the cupping vessel using a flame, the resulting suction would draw blood out of the surface of the skin through the wound
