Giants Despair Hill Climb, 1907. American Mors automobile and passengers on the route of the Giants Despair Hill Climb, near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA. This motorsport contest was established to test the latest cars over a steep hill course. The route covers a mile (1.6 kilometres) and rises 200 metres as it winds through mountain roads. The first race took place in 1906, with a winning time of 2 minutes and 11 seconds. This second race took place on 30 May 1907, and was won in 1 minute 59 seconds by James Benedict Ryall (1882-1923) driving a Matheson 60 HP automobile (see C018/0609).
