Horned sea star
Horned sea star, or chocolate chip starfish (Protoreaster nodosus), on the seabed. This starfish inhabits the tropical Indo-Pacific region, where it feeds on carrion, algae, aquatic plants and detritus. Like most other starfish, it has amazing powers of regeneration. If an arm is severed it will grow back, and occasionally a severed arm will develop into a complete new starfish. It is a large starfish, and can reach a diameter of around 40 centimetres.
