Johann Jakob Brucker, German historian

Johann Jakob Brucker (1696-1770), German church minister and historian of philosophy. He worked as a church minister in Kaufbeuren, and then in Augsburg at the church of St Ulrich. He gathered and published much material on the history of ideas, and was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin in 1731. His magnum opus was Historia Critica Philosophiae (1742-1744), a popular work that was reprinted and also translated into English. 19th-century engraving
