Korolyovs designs for Soviet rockets
Korolevs designs for Soviet rockets. Hand-drawn rocket designs and notes by the Soviet engineer Sergei Korolev (1907-1966). Korolevs early career was involved with designing aircraft, before becoming involved with the early Soviet rocket society GIRD in the 1930s. He was imprisoned for six years during one of Stalins purges, but was still allowed to work on rocket designs. He was released in 1944, and worked on ICBM (nuclear missiles). In 1953, he proposed the use of rockets for space travel, and in 1957 this led to the launch of Sputnik 1, the worlds first artificial satellite. Korolev, as the chief Soviet rocket designer, worked on the Vostok and Voskhod spacecraft programs, and was working on plans for a Moon rocket at the time of his death

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the hand-drawn rocket designs and meticulous notes of Sergei Korolev, a brilliant Soviet engineer whose contributions to space exploration were truly groundbreaking. Born in 1907, Korolev initially focused on designing aircraft before immersing himself in the early Soviet rocket society known as GIRD during the 1930s. However, his path was not without obstacles. During one of Stalin's purges, Korolev endured six years of imprisonment but astonishingly continued working on his revolutionary rocket designs even behind bars. Finally released in 1944, he dedicated himself to developing intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that would shape the future of warfare. In a momentous turn of events, it was Korolev who proposed using rockets for space travel in 1953. This visionary idea ultimately led to the historic launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957 - humanity's first artificial satellite orbiting our planet. As the chief Soviet rocket designer, Korolev played an instrumental role in shaping both the Vostok and Voskhod spacecraft programs. At the time of his untimely death, he was engrossed in plans for a Moon rocket - a testament to his unwavering determination and pioneering spirit. This monochrome image transports us back to a pivotal era when technological advancements were rapidly propelling mankind into uncharted territories. It serves as an enduring reminder of Sergey Korolyov's extraordinary legacy and his profound impact on space flight history.
