Thomas Huxley, English biologist
Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895), English biologist. Huxley was best known as " Darwins Bulldog" due to his advocacy of Charles Darwins theory of evolution. In 1860 Huxley presented Darwins theory at a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science at Oxford, where he faced an ardent opponent, Bishop Samuel Wilberfoce. Huxley won the day by demonstrating there were close similarities between the cerebal anatomy of humans and gorillas. Huxley invented the word " agnostic" as a means of expressing his religious beliefs
