Solignac mixed boiler system, 1897

Solignac mixed boiler system. 19th-century artwork of a rear cross-section view through a Solignac mixed boiler system. This shows S-tube bundles through which water is passed from a reservoir tank or drum (across top). This tube is heated by the furnace (bottom) and the steam passed to the moving parts of the engine. This was a compact and relatively safe boiler that was built to order. It was a French design, by an engineer named Solignac, and was patented in the UK in 1894. Artwork from the first volume (1897) of La Revue Scientifique et Industrielle by French chemist and inventor Jules-Louis Breton (1872-1940)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the 19th century, showcasing an intricate engineering marvel - the Solignac mixed boiler system. The artwork provides a rear cross-section view of this innovative French design by engineer Solignac, patented in the UK in 1894. The image reveals a compact and relatively safe boiler that revolutionized power generation during its time. S-tube bundles elegantly snake through the apparatus, allowing water from a reservoir tank or drum to be heated by the furnace below. The resulting steam is then channeled to power the moving parts of an engine. With meticulous detail, this illustration captures both the technological prowess and historical significance of this remarkable machine. It offers a glimpse into an era when industrial advancements were transforming Europe's factories and powering its burgeoning industries. Originally featured in La Revue Scientifique et Industrielle, a renowned scientific publication curated by French chemist Jules-Louis Breton, this artwork showcases his passion for documenting groundbreaking inventions of his time. As we admire this monochrome masterpiece, we are transported back to an age where innovation thrived amidst burning furnaces and cutting-edge equipment. This print serves as a testament to human ingenuity and our relentless pursuit of progress in harnessing technology for societal advancement.
