Soyuz TMA-11 space crew
Soyuz TMA-11 space crew. The crew of Soyuz TMA 11 was made up of Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor (left), Yuri Malenchenko (middle) and Peggy Whitson (right). Soyuz TMA-11 was launched on 10th October 2007 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Shukor was the first Malaysian to go into space and the first Muslim to enter space during the holy month of Ramadan. Malenchenko (Russia) was assigned as Flight Engineer 1 during this ISS (International Space Station) expedition known as Expedition 16. He was also the first person to marry in space and married Ekaterina Dmitrieva on 10th August 2003 while he was on the ISS. Whitson (USA) was the first female mission commander at the ISS.
