Spider web construction
Spider web construction. Computer trace of the movements made by a Zilla diodia spider as it constructed its silk web. The red lines show the spiders path as it formed initial structures such as anchor threads. Yellow lines relate to the construction of the webs radial threads, white lines to the temporary (auxiliary) spiral and blue lines to the sticky spiral used to capture prey. Z. diodia is always found on its large vertical web which is constructed in bushes and the lower branches of trees. This work was carried out at the University of Basel in Switzerland using a video camera attached to an image scanning device
