Warty frogfish
Warty frogfish (Antennarius maculatus) on a coral reef. The colour and shape of this fish mimics a sponge, allowing the fish to hide from both predators and prey. It is a lie-in-wait predator, remaining motionless and waiting for its prey, typically smaller fish and crustaceans, to approach. When its prey is close it makes a sudden gulp, which suck it into its mouth. It inhabits coral reefs in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, from the Maldives to the Pacific islands. It can reach a length of around 15 centimetres. Photographed in the Andaman Sea, Thailand
