White rhinoceros

White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) calf, aged six months. The white rhinoceros is a herbivore that lives in grasslands and savannahs. It is the second largest land animal after the elephant, weighing up to 3600 kilograms. Females give birth to a single calf every three to four years, after a gestation period of approximately seventeen months. The calf is typically sixty-five kilograms when born. The calf will be weaned when it is one year old, but will not leave its mother until her next calf is born. Photographed in Mkhuzi, South Africa
