This poignant print captures the devastating aftermath of a parachute mine explosion at Paddington Station on 17th April 1941. The image showcases the departure side of the station, revealing a harrowing scene of destruction and chaos. In this snapshot, we witness an ongoing clean-up operation in full swing, as determined workers strive to restore order amidst the rubble. Their tireless efforts are evident, showcasing resilience and determination even in the face of such tragedy. The consequences of this horrific event were profound: eighteen lives lost, including six dedicated staff members who tragically perished while serving their duties. Additionally, ninety-seven individuals sustained injuries that would forever alter their lives. Notably destroyed by this catastrophic blast was No. 2 Booking Hall, situated adjacent to Platform 1.
