Many injured in Brussels riots.
Please clash with war veterans.
Fierce fighting broke out in Brussels when 15, 000 ex-servicemen and war widows marched through the streets to demonstrate against the granting of an amnesty to Belgians condemned for aiding the enemy during the German occupation in the war. The fighting occurred when war veterans try to break the lines of police guarding a neutral zone surrounding Government offices.
Many police and demonstrators were injured. Demands were made for the resignation of the Government and 400 ex-soldiers lay down on the pavements in front of the Royal Palace demanding that the King should receive a deputation.
The King eventually did receive a deputation and the demonstrators dispersed.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This historic print captures the intense aftermath of the Brussels riots that shook the city on June 24,1937. Tensions escalated as a massive crowd of 15,000 ex-servicemen and war widows took to the streets to protest against an amnesty granted to Belgians accused of aiding the enemy during German occupation in World War I. Fierce fighting erupted when these war veterans attempted to breach police lines protecting a neutral zone surrounding Government offices. The clash between protesters and law enforcement resulted in numerous injuries among both parties. The demonstrators demanded not only justice but also called for the resignation of the government. In a powerful display, around 400 ex-soldiers defiantly lay down on pavements outside the Royal Palace, urging King Leopold III to receive their deputation. Eventually, their persistence paid off as King Leopold III agreed to meet with a delegation from this passionate group. As news spread about this significant development, tensions began to ease and demonstrators gradually dispersed. In this striking image captured by TopFoto. co. uk, we witness one poignant symbol of defiance - an iron fence bordering the Royal Park torn down by infuriated protesters. This photograph serves as a reminder of a tumultuous era between two world wars in Europe's history while highlighting citizens' determination for justice and accountability from their leaders.
