Timber from a haunted house at Hornchurch reputed to have belonged to Dick Turpins family, stones, floors, and other timber from ships, gathered from historic places all over the country have been used by Boy Scout toop to build a Tudor headquarters at Godstone, Surrey.
The framework of the building was once a 15th Century Sussex barn. The Scouts, who have been at work since April, collected the materials on their various holidays. They have put nearly 4, 000 hours of voluntary work into the building. The new headquarters will be opened next month by the Earl of Nuckingham.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a remarkable feat of craftsmanship and dedication by the Boy Scouts. The image showcases their extraordinary achievement in constructing their own Tudor headquarters at Godstone, Surrey, using materials collected from historic sites across the country. The building's framework originated from a 15th Century Sussex barn, lending an authentic touch to this impressive structure. However, it is the diverse range of materials that truly sets this project apart. Timber sourced from a haunted house in Hornchurch, rumored to have connections to Dick Turpin's family, as well as stones and floors salvaged from ships with rich historical significance were all incorporated into this unique construction. Since April, these dedicated scouts have invested nearly 4,000 hours of voluntary work into bringing their vision to life. Their unwavering commitment shines through as they can be seen diligently working on the timber fronted Tudor headquarters in the photograph. Next month will mark the grand opening of this exceptional building, which will be graced by none other than the Earl of Nuckingham himself. This momentous occasion will undoubtedly serve as a testament to both the scouts' incredible efforts and their profound appreciation for history and heritage. This monochrome snapshot offers us a glimpse into an era between wars when young individuals took it upon themselves to preserve architectural treasures while fostering camaraderie within their ranks – truly embodying what it means to be part of the scouting movement.
