Decorative purple cabbage

OK, I didn t really have to fly halfway around the world to see a purple cabbage - but it was fun! This was minding its own business in Maymyo Botanic Park. Maymyo - formerly Pyin Oo Lwin or Pyin U Lwin, lies in the highlands of Myanmar. Its cooler climate meant it was much favoured by the British during colonial days

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the beauty of a decorative purple cabbage, showcasing its vibrant hues and intricate patterns. The photographer humorously admits that while flying halfway around the world may not have been necessary to see this stunning vegetable, it was certainly an enjoyable adventure. This particular cabbage was discovered in Maymyo Botanic Park, located in the highlands of Myanmar (formerly known as Pyin Oo Lwin or Pyin U Lwin). During colonial times, this region's cooler climate made it a favored destination for the British. The image showcases the life and growth of this unique plant, with its rosette-like display and tropical foliage. Its radial symmetry adds to its visual appeal, creating an abstract pattern that is both mesmerizing and artistic. While primarily cultivated as a food crop due to its edible nature, this purple cabbage also serves as a decorative element in gardens worldwide. Through this photograph by Jon Bower from Universal Images Group (UIG), viewers are transported to Maymyo's botanical wonderland where they can appreciate the natural wonders found within our own planet. It reminds us of how even seemingly ordinary objects like vegetables can possess extraordinary beauty when observed closely.
