Gurneys Eagle Collection

Gurney's Eagle (Nisaetus gurneyi) is a species of bird of prey in the Accipitridae family, and is found in Southeast Asia, inhabiting tropical and subtropical forests and has a large wingspan, reaching up to 1.6 meters, and is characterized by its white head and neck with black streaks on the sides of its face. Its body is brown with dark barring on the underside, while its tail has a broad black band at the end. Gurney's Eagle feeds mainly on small mammals such as rodents and bats, but will also take birds and reptiles when available. Its population size is decreasing due to habitat loss from deforestation as well as hunting for food or sport. Conservation efforts are being made to protect this species from further decline by protecting their habitats through conservation areas or protected reserves.
