Goulds Emerald Collection

Gould's Emerald (Chlorostilbon aureoventris) is a species of hummingbird found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America, and is a member of the Apodiformes bird family, which includes swifts and hummingbirds. The Gould's Emerald has an emerald-green head, back, wings, and tail with white underparts. Its bill is blackish-grey with a slightly curved upper mandible. This species feeds on nectar from flowers as well as small insects like spiders and beetles and can be found in open woodlands, gardens, parks, orchards, forest edges, pastures and other areas with flowering plants. The Gould's Emerald is considered to be common throughout its range but its population numbers are declining due to habitat loss caused by deforestation for agricultural purposes or urban development. Conservation efforts are needed to ensure this beautiful species continues to thrive in its natural environment for generations to come.
