Kagu (Eurypygiformes) is a species of bird native to the forests of New Caledonia, an island in the South Pacific, and is a medium-sized bird, with a greyish-brown plumage and red facial skin. The Kagu has long legs and a long neck which it uses to probe for food in the leaf litter on the forest floor. Its diet consists mainly of insects, worms, snails and other small invertebrates. It also eats some fruits and seeds. The Kagu is an endangered species due to habitat destruction caused by logging activities as well as predation from introduced mammals such as cats and rats.
