Black Crowned Crane Collection

The Black Crowned Crane (Balearica pavonina) is a species of crane found in Africa and parts of the Middle East, and is a large bird, with adults reaching up to 1.5 meters tall and weighing up to 7 kilograms, black head and neck, white cheeks, chestnut brown wings, and greyish-white body feathers. Its legs are long and yellowish-grey in color. This species lives in wetlands such as swamps, marshes, floodplains, grasslands near rivers or lakes, cultivated areas near water sources or even dry savannas with temporary pools of water. They feed mainly on insects but also eat small reptiles, amphibians and plant matter such as grains or seeds when available, and are monogamous birds that form strong pair bonds for life; they build their nests on the ground close to water sources where they lay two eggs which hatch after about 30 days incubation period by both parents taking turns sitting on them until hatching time arrives. The Black Crowned Crane is an endangered species due to habitat destruction caused by human activities like farming or urbanization; however conservation efforts have been successful in some areas where populations have been increasing slowly over time due to protection measures taken by local governments.
