Black Wheatear Collection

The Black Wheatear (Oenanthe leucura) is a species of passerine bird in the family Muscicapidae, and is found in North Africa, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia and has a black head, white throat and upper breast, and grey-brown back. The wings are dark brown with white wing bars and the tail is black with white tips. Its diet consists mainly of insects such as beetles, grasshoppers, caterpillars and spiders which it catches by flycatching or gleaning from foliage or rocks. Breeding takes place from April to August in areas with rocky terrain where they build their nests on ledges or crevices in cliffs or walls, and are monogamous birds that form strong pair bonds that can last for several years, and are territorial during breeding season but become more sociable during winter when they gather in flocks to feed on open ground near human habitations.
