Blue Tit Collection

The Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) is a small passerine bird in the tit family Paridae, and is native to Europe and western Asia, and has been introduced to New Zealand, small bird, measuring 12–14 cm in length with a wingspan of 20–22 cm. Its plumage is mainly blue-green on the upperparts, yellowish-white on the underparts, and has a white face with a black eye stripe and crown and has an acrobatic flight pattern with rapid wing beats interspersed with glides. It feeds mainly on insects but also eats seeds and nuts. The blue tit nests in tree cavities or nest boxes, laying up to 12 eggs per clutch which are incubated for 13–15 days before hatching. Both parents feed their young which fledge after 18–21 days but remain dependent for several weeks afterwards before becoming independent at around six weeks old.
