Galapagos Penguin Collection

The Galapagos Penguin is a species of penguin found exclusively on the Galapagos Islands, and are the only penguin species to live north of the equator and are considered an endangered species due to their limited range and population size. The average adult stands at about 18 inches tall and weighs around 4 pounds. Their diet consists mostly of small fish, squid, and crustaceans that they catch while swimming in the ocean. They have black backs with white fronts, as well as a white band across their chest and head. They breed during the dry season from April to December, laying two eggs in burrows or rock crevices which they incubate for up to 40 days before hatching. The chicks fledge after 70-80 days but remain dependent on their parents for food until they reach independence at around 120 days old. Conservation efforts such as habitat protection have been put in place in order to help protect this unique species from further decline.
