The Cape Gannet (Morus capensis) is a large seabird belonging to the Suliformes family, and is native to southern Africa, and can be found along the coasts of Namibia, South Africa, and Mozambique. The bird has a white body with black wingtips and a yellow head. Its wingspan can reach up to 1.5 meters in length, making it one of the largest gannets in the world. The Cape Gannet feeds mainly on fish which it catches by plunging into the water from heights of up to 30 meters above sea level. It nests in colonies on rocky islands off the coast of southern Africa where it lays its eggs on bare ground or cliffsides. This species is listed as Least Concern by IUCN due to its wide range and stable population numbers despite threats from human activities such as fishing nets and oil spills that can cause mortality or injury among birds at sea.
