Mexican Duck Collection

Mexican Duck (Anas diazi) is a species of duck found in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, and is a medium-sized duck with a dark brown head and neck, light brown body, and white underparts. The male has an orange bill with black tip while the female has an orange-yellow bill. Mexican Ducks inhabit freshwater wetlands such as marshes, ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. They feed on aquatic plants and insects as well as grains from agricultural fields near their habitats. During breeding season they form monogamous pairs that build nests in dense vegetation near water sources. The female lays up to 12 eggs which are incubated for about 28 days before hatching, and are considered common throughout their range but may be threatened by habitat destruction due to human activities such as agriculture or urbanization. Conservation efforts have been put in place to protect this species from further decline in numbers.
