Dispar Collection

Dispar is a genus of small mammals in the family Cricetidae, and are found throughout Europe, Asia, and North America and can typically between 4-10 cm in length and weigh up to 30 g. They have short legs and long tails, with short fur that can be gray or brownish in color. Dispar feed mainly on insects, but also consume seeds, fruits, and other plant material. Their diet is supplemented by occasional consumption of small vertebrates such as frogs or lizards. Dispar live in burrows which they dig themselves or occupy abandoned burrows of other animals such as moles or voles, and are active during the day but may become nocturnal when disturbed by humans or predators like foxes and weasels. In winter they hibernate for several months at a time until spring arrives again when they emerge from their dens to begin another year of activity and reproduction.
