Ocelot Collection

The ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) is a small wild cat native to the Americas and has a spotted coat of fur and can be found in tropical forests, savannas, and grasslands from Texas to northern Argentina, and are solitary animals that hunt during the night for small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. They also eat fruits and insects. Ocelots have an average life span of 12-15 years in the wild but can live up to 20 years in captivity, and are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and hunting for their fur which is used for clothing and decoration. Conservation efforts have been put into place to protect this species from further decline including protected areas such as national parks where they can roam freely without fear of being hunted or disturbed by humans.
